Take the Cake (TTC) recently expanded their hours to include Sunday brunch from 9 am to 2 pm. I have gone on a number of occasions now, and while I hear they have many options, the only one I care about is this:
That is their Sausage Gravy and Biscuits. Biscuits are a big thing at TTC. Many of their entrees involve biscuits. They use Kroeger & Sons Southern Sausage for the gravy and it is simply delicious.
I have had sausage gravy in the past, but never been a huge fan of it. This is delicious. I think the gravy is just about the perfect consistency, since a lot of sausage gravy seems too thick to me. It’s also the perfect amount. I ordered the same thing at Tucker’s recently, and it was too much (and too thick). This is easily my favorite sausage gravy, and vies for favorite breakfast.
It appears that the sausage gravy is a staple of the brunch menu, but the other items change weekly. You can always go to http://bit.ly/TTCSpecials to see the current lineup for that day, or follow @TaketheCakeCafe on Twitter to get the latest. On our last trip, my wife had the Shrimp and Grits and really liked it. Since she is from the South, you can trust that it was a well prepared dish.
And of course, there are always the desserts. I have a hard time passing up a cream puff:
So, if you are looking for a great brunch option, check out Take the Cake some Sunday, you will not be disappointed. If you have guests in town this weekend, this would be the perfect combination of delicious food and local flavor.
Thanks for the heads up! My family is coming into town soon and I’d like to take them some where local to eat! This is now at the top of the list!
